General Information and Deadlines
- For international applicants, the admissions deadline is March 31.
If you are an international applicant, and you submit an application after March 1, please notify the Program Director, Dr. Weijia Li to accelerate the review process, so you have enough time to apply for a student visa. - For domestic applicants, the admissions deadline is July 1.
If you are a domestic applicant, and you submit an application after May 1, please notify the Program Director, Dr. Weijia Li to accelerate the review process. - We use a “rolling admissions” process in which applications are reviewed as they are received.
- You will be informed about your admission status within 2 to 3 weeks after your application is completed online.
- Start date: Program begins fall semester each year.
Admissions Requirements
- Undergraduate grade-point average (GPA) of 3.0 or higher.
If your undergraduate GPA is below 3.0, you can submit an essay (no more than two pages) explaining why the GPA does not reflect your capabilities and competence of completing a master’s degree. Submit the essay as a supplemental document at the online application portal. - A bachelor’s degree in any field.
- GRE scores are not required.
- For international applicants: To fulfill the English proficiency requirement, the Graduate School accepts test results from TOEFL iBT, IELTS, IELTS Indicator, and Duolingo English Test. You must submit your scores following the directions below:
- Submit TOEFL scores electronically via ETS. Our institution code is 1846.
- Submit IELTS scores electronically or by mail via IELTS. To send electronically, select our account name UW-Madison Graduate School. To send by mail, use the following address:
