What drew you to pursue a master’s degree in Educational Leadership & Policy Analysis: Global Higher Education from UW–Madison?
I completed my undergraduate studies at University of California, Los Angeles, where I also worked at the Hammer Museum. During my time there, I had the opportunity to engage with many international students. Learning about their diverse backgrounds and motivations sparked my interest in pursuing a career in the international field. As I began exploring pathways into international education and international studies, GHE emerged as one of the first programs I discovered through my research. Its focus and mission strongly resonated with my goals.
What was your most meaningful experience/impactful class or faculty member during your time with the Global Higher Education program?
I will have to say taking Brit Wagner’s class on Research Methods opened my eyes in the micro side of education. Before joining this program, I’ve always had a great idea of what career path I want to take after completing the degree. However, through instructor Wagner’s teaching, I am considering a PhD to deep dive my interest in Community Colleges experiences for International Students and Scholars.
How has your degree helped you in your current job or career?
Professor Li helped prepare us for the real world better than I could even imagine. I came in as a student but left as a professional. I’m currently a J-1 exchange advisor at UCLA, where building connections and forming relationships is vital. Professional development was a fundamental pillar for Professor Weija Li’s courses, which provided me the confidence to form meaningful relationships.
